I made the mistake of posting my opinion of Halloween on my facebook page. Got more 'amens' than criticisms, but I did pick up a couple of those. Two of them being from my own children. Great. Must learn to keep my mouth shut. All I said was,"Am I the only person who doesn't like Halloween."
So that's that. Now for some opinions of Judgment House. I am helping with makeup this year. It's the first year I have done this duty, and I love it! The first year of JH,I was a prayer walker, the next a pray-er, the third I helped in Follow-up. So this year when Joy called (again - she had asked me almost every other year) I said yes. This is really down my alley.
Last night I was able to do a black eye on Seth who was playing John Cartwright, the high powered lawyer who has a heart attack at 40 and dies. Seth was a pretty new entrant into hell, so he wasn't quite as beat up as some of the tormented beings. The black eye turned out great, then I scuffed him up a little with bright red scratches and various bruises.
I have gotten to do Andy's make up twice. He is an albino damien, so its just white makeup all over, with white spray paint in his hair. Then he blacks his teeth completely and wears white contacts. Very effective. He does his speaking part well. This evening, I may get to mess around with the latex to make a fresh wound on one of the tormented. They and the other damiens are the most involved make-up jobs. The tormentors are all black, unless we redden around their eyes. Those are easy to do also. I'll try to remember my camera today so that I can take some picks of the make-up jobs to add to this blog.
We have had good numbers for salvations, re-dedications, and prayer requests. As Richard Duerksen put it when asked why he is acting as a guide again this year, "The groups go thru the scenes to see a drama, we guides get to watch the dramatic effect on many attendee's lives." The closer you get to interacting with the people who come, the more you are changed - usually for the better.
JH is a huge commitment for many, many people in church, but for those of us who are committed, it is worth the lack of sleep, the sore muscles, the sometimes lost voices of the actors, etc because it touches the souls of the people attending and hopefully makes a difference in their lives! The unity of the whole group of staff, actors, crew, etc has been remarkable this year, and it makes us a more formidable foe to that old Slewfoot, the devil! It is great to be a part of this and experience what unity in the Spirit can accomplish!
